The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) announced that Yalitza Aparicio, the acclaimed Mexican actress known for her Oscar-nominated role in Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, will receive the GALFA Icon Award at the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF XV). The festival is scheduled for September 30 through October 4, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
The GALFA Icon Award is presented to individuals whose careers and influence have significantly contributed to the visibility and advancement of Latino culture in film and entertainment. Aparicio’s impact extends beyond her performances; she has become a prominent voice for cultural representation and Latino pride, inspiring audiences globally and bringing greater visibility to Mexican and Latino talent in international cinema.
Her portrayal of Cleo in Roma earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, a historic achievement that underscored the importance of Latino representation on the world’s most prestigious cinematic stage. The recognition also carries special meaning during GALIFF’s milestone 15th anniversary, as Mexico serves as the Guest Country of Honor for the 2026 festival.

The award will be presented during GALIFF XV Opening Night on September 30, 2026, at the historic Fox Theatre. For 15 years, GALIFF and GALFA have worked to create opportunities for Latino filmmakers, actors, producers, students, and entertainment professionals while building bridges between Georgia’s film industry and the international Latino creative community.
