In the competitive real estate market of the DMV, where thousands of agents vie for clients, one annual recognition stands out because it is not based on sales figures but on the votes of those who have directly experienced an agent's work. Washingtonian magazine's "100 Best Agents" list, published each July, is determined by a public survey, making it a unique marker of trust and reputation in the region.
Daryl Judy, an Associate Broker at Washington Fine Properties, was named to the 2026 list. He emphasizes that this accolade reflects a long-term reputation rather than a single standout year. "It's not based on an ad, pay per play," Judy said. "It's based on reputation, based on what the public perceives you to be as one of the 100 best agents out of 25,000."
The selection process involves a survey sent to roughly 50,000 Washingtonian subscribers and previous listees, asking whom they have most enjoyed working with. Respondents evaluate agents on market knowledge, integrity, communication, and preparation through closing. The magazine further vets results with industry professionals, including fellow agents, mortgage brokers, and inspectors. This method contrasts with production-based honors that simply reflect sales volume, capturing instead how clients and peers experience working with an agent over time.
The significance for potential buyers and sellers is clear: appearing on a list chosen by the public signals a level of trust that cannot be bought or achieved through a lucky year. "This is not an award you can win by having one lucky sale or one good year," Judy noted. "It's reputation, year after year after year. It takes a long time to build."
Reputation in real estate operates on dual tracks—client satisfaction and peer respect. A public vote incorporates both, which is especially important in negotiations where an agent's reliability and communication can influence outcomes. For consumers, a recognition built on the experiences of many offers a more durable indicator of an agent's likely performance than a single year's sales figures.
As the DMV market continues to evolve, awards like Washingtonian's "100 Best Agents" provide a trusted signal for those seeking guidance. They highlight professionals who have consistently demonstrated excellence, making the list a valuable resource for anyone navigating the complexities of buying or selling a home.
