UGI Utilities, Inc. has commenced a natural gas main replacement project in Macungie, part of its ongoing commitment to providing safe and reliable service. The upgrades, which began this week, also present an opportunity for some homes and businesses along the project route to convert to natural gas.
The underground work will take place on several streets including South Church Street and Mountain Road between East Main Street and Lorene Drive, the intersection of East Main Street and South Church Street, Locust Street between South Church Street and Pine Street, and Cedar Street between South Church Street and Spring Street. Construction is scheduled Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Drivers, residents, and business owners should expect road closures, detours, and parking restrictions. There will be some interruptions to natural gas service, requiring UGI to access properties to inspect and relight equipment.
Installation of the new natural gas main is expected to be completed by the end of December. Temporary restoration of the area will occur immediately after the underground work is finished, with final paving to follow at a later date.
