The award recognizes first responders in Charles County and throughout Southern Maryland for their dedication and service to the community. Nominations will be accepted starting today, with winners to be announced on October 5, 2026.
The contest is open to all local first responders, including paramedics, police officers, firefighters, emergency response teams, public safety providers, emergency hospital facilities and workers, military service members, and other emergency workers. Each winner will receive a $500 cash prize and four complimentary tickets to a luxury suite at a D.C. United game on October 24, where they will be celebrated alongside other honorees and Trollinger Law staff. Additionally, honorees will be recognized on the field during halftime.
Matt Trollinger, founder of Trollinger Law, emphasized the importance of recognizing these everyday heroes. 'We started Hometown Heroes as a way to honor a group of people whose efforts to protect and serve others often happen behind the scenes, with no expectation of recognition,' he said. Previous honorees have included current and retired members of the Charles County Sheriff's Office, the Marine Corps, the Charles County Department of Emergency Medical Services, local police and fire departments, and volunteer rescue squads. The award aims to shine a spotlight on the critical role these individuals play in ensuring public safety and well-being.
