As the back-to-school season begins, The Dairy Alliance is supporting families with high-protein recipes designed to keep children energized throughout the academic day. The organization, which works alongside dairy farmers across the Southeast, offers a variety of quick and nutritious meal options covering breakfast, lunch, snack time, and on-the-go needs.
Laura Buxenbaum, Vice President of Health and Wellness at The Dairy Alliance, highlighted the challenges families face during this time. “The school year often creates added stress for families as routines shift and calendars fill up. That's why we provide a variety of delicious, nutrient-rich meals that work for packed lunches or quick breakfasts,” she said. “When families include real dairy in recipes, kids benefit from a high-protein powerhouse food that fuels their growing and active bodies. Alongside protein, real dairy delivers calcium, vitamin D, and phosphorus, which are all key nutrients for strong bones.”
The Dairy Alliance’s website, https://thedairyalliance.com, features a selection of recipes that require minimal time and ingredients while delivering maximum flavor. Examples include the Chicken Pesto Wrap, which uses just three ingredients, and the Low-Lactose Garden Egg Bites, a protein-forward and portable option. For kid-friendly snacks, families can prepare fresh fruit and dip or the Grand Slam Snack Mix. Convenient grab-and-go options featuring real dairy, such as string cheese, yogurt, smoothies, and milk chugs, are also readily available at local grocery and convenience stores.
Buxenbaum emphasized the ease of incorporating dairy into meals: “There are a number of ways to make real dairy milk part of meal time at school, work, or home. Some of our recipes and tips are simple enough that kids can help with the prep, adding to the fun family time in the kitchen.”
The Dairy Alliance is a nonprofit funded by dairy farm families in the Southeast, serving eight states: Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. More information is available at https://thedairyalliance.com.
