The expiration of enhanced federal premium tax credits in late 2025 has caused health insurance costs to soar in 2026. According to KFF, ACA Marketplace premium payments have more than doubled on average, rising from roughly $888 to nearly $1,904 per month—a 114% increase. This surge has led to an estimated 7.3 million people losing coverage, with 4.8 million becoming uninsured. Florida, with an uninsured rate near 13.2%, and Texas, the highest in the nation, have been among the hardest hit.
