Star of the West Milling Company, a 156-year-old agricultural leader, announced the launch of its 2026 Sustainable Tracking of Agronomic Resources (STAR) program on July 8, 2026. The initiative, supported by a USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service Advancing Markets for Producers (AMP) grant, focuses on the Great Lakes Grain Initiative and incorporates Ostara’s CG P2X™ fertilizer to help farmers deliver measurable sustainability outcomes.
The STAR program is designed to create value for farmers who adopt or expand sustainability practices when supplying wheat, dry beans, or food grade soybeans. Participating farmers can receive up to $50 per acre in incentives. The program enables Star of the West to provide downstream food companies with credible data on supply chain impacts, helping meet increasing sustainability reporting requirements.
“This program empowers our farmers to implement practices that not only benefit their operations but also provide transparency to the food companies we serve,” said a representative from Star of the West. The use of Ostara’s CG P2X fertilizer, the next evolution of Crystal Green®, is a key component. CG P2X is a highly efficient phosphate fertilizer proven to release nutrients in response to crop demand, reducing environmental impact and improving crop yields.
The announcement highlights the growing importance of sustainability in agriculture. Food companies are facing pressure from consumers and regulators to document the environmental footprint of their supply chains, and programs like STAR provide a mechanism to generate verifiable data. By linking financial incentives to sustainable practices, Star of the West aims to accelerate adoption among its network of farmers.
