Nordex Group Secures 77 MW Wind Order in Romania, Strengthening Regional Position

The Nordex Group has received an order from Swedish renewable energy company OX2 to supply and install 11 N175/6.X turbines for the Urleasca wind farm in Romania. The contract, which covers a total installed capacity of 77 MW, also includes a 35-year Premium Service agreement. The wind farm, located near the village of Urleasca in Brăila County, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of Bucharest, is expected to commence construction in Q3 2026 and be commissioned in the second half of 2028.

In parallel, OX2 has sold the ready-to-build Urleasca project to Norwegian renewable energy solutions provider Scatec ASA. OX2 will oversee the entire construction phase. The wind farm holds a long-term Contract-for-Difference (CfD) with the Romanian State, providing revenue certainty and underscoring the country's commitment to renewable energy expansion.

This order highlights the strategic importance of Romania as a growing market for wind energy. According to Slava Feklin, Country Manager for Romania and Ukraine at Nordex Group, 'Romania continues to offer attractive opportunities for the deployment of modern wind energy technology. By combining OX2’s international project development expertise with our latest N175/6.X technology, all companies will deliver efficient and competitive renewable electricity to the Romanian market.'

The Urleasca project further strengthens Nordex Group's position in Romania, where the company has contracted more than 500 MW in the last months. This order contributes to the country's renewable energy targets and supports the transition away from fossil fuels. The CfD mechanism provides stable revenue, reducing investment risks and encouraging further development.

The N175/6.X turbine is part of Nordex's latest generation, designed for high efficiency and suitability for sites with moderate wind speeds. The 35-year service agreement ensures long-term operational support, maximizing turbine performance and availability. This long-term commitment is crucial for the project's success and reflects the trust between the parties.

The sale to Scatec, a major player in renewable energy, indicates growing investor confidence in Romania's renewable sector. Scatec's involvement brings additional expertise and financial muscle, which may accelerate the project's development and operation. The construction phase, managed by OX2, will involve local subcontractors and create jobs, contributing to the regional economy.

This order also aligns with the European Union's climate goals, as Romania aims to increase its renewable energy share. The CfD scheme is part of the government's strategy to support new capacity. Nordex's technology and OX2's development skills combined with Scatec's ownership create a robust framework for successful project delivery.

The Nordex Group has a strong track record, having commissioned more than 64 GW of wind power capacity in over 40 markets since 1985. Its product portfolio focuses on onshore turbines in the 4 to 7 MW+ classes, designed for markets with limited space and constrained grid capacity. This experience ensures reliable and efficient project execution.

OX2, based in Stockholm, has a diverse project portfolio of about 33 GW across onshore and offshore wind, solar, and storage. The company operates in five European markets and Australia, and is owned by EQT, a major global investor. This partnership between Nordex and OX2 has been successful in other countries, and the Urleasca project marks their collaboration in Romania.

The Urleasca wind farm is expected to generate significant amounts of clean electricity, contributing to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy security. The CfD provides a stable revenue stream for 15 years, making the project attractive to investors. With the support of the Romanian government, the project is well-positioned to play a key role in the country's energy transition.
