Nicola Mining Inc. (NASDAQ: NICM) (TSX.V: NIM) (FSE: HLIA) and Ocean Partners UK Limited have committed a combined $10 million in financing to Blue Lagoon Resources (CSE: BLLG), with each investing $5 million. The funding is intended to support continued development and the production ramp-up of Blue Lagoon's 100%-owned Dome Mountain Gold and Silver Project near Smithers, British Columbia, toward a targeted production rate of 150 to 200 tonnes per day. Nicola completed its investment through a private placement at $0.60 per share, acquiring 8,333,333 common shares.
This investment builds on Nicola's previous $1 million investment in Blue Lagoon completed in January 2024, while Ocean Partners has now committed a total of $8 million to Blue Lagoon. Nicola said the financing also strengthens the relationship among mine development, concentrate marketing and milling infrastructure, with its wholly owned Merritt Mill expected to play an increasingly important role as Blue Lagoon advances production. The collaboration underscores a strategic alignment that leverages Nicola's processing capabilities and Ocean Partners' marketing expertise to support Blue Lagoon's growth trajectory.
The Dome Mountain project is a high-grade gold and silver mine with significant exploration upside. The funding will enable Blue Lagoon to accelerate development and achieve its production targets, which are expected to generate substantial cash flows. For Nicola, this investment not only provides financial returns but also secures potential milling throughput for its Merritt Mill, enhancing utilization and operational synergies. For Ocean Partners, the increased commitment reflects confidence in the project's economics and the management team's execution capabilities.
The announcement highlights the growing trend of strategic investments in near-term producers, as companies seek to capitalize on the current gold price environment. With gold prices hovering near record highs, investments in development-stage projects like Dome Mountain offer attractive risk-reward profiles. The financing also demonstrates the importance of partnerships in the mining sector, where capital, expertise, and infrastructure are often combined to de-risk projects and accelerate timelines.
