Invest Hong Kong (InvestHK), a member of the Task Force on Supporting Mainland Enterprises in Going Global (GoGlobal Task Force), will lead a delegation on a seven-day visit to Canada starting September 20 to support Mainland enterprises in expanding their global business. The mission, supervised by the Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, is part of a broader effort to help Chinese companies internationalize through Hong Kong while attracting foreign investment into the city.
According to the announcement, the delegation will be led by Ms Loretta Lee, Associate Director-General of Investment Promotion at InvestHK, and will include Chinese Mainland companies in sustainability and life and health sciences. The visit will cover Vancouver, Calgary, and Edmonton, aiming to help these enterprises understand local ecosystems, align their go-global needs, and attract Canadian businesses in strategic sectors to invest in Hong Kong, thereby driving new growth impetus.
Ms Lee emphasized the mutual benefits of the mission: "Canada is globally recognised for its exceptional research talent, clean technology leadership, and established life sciences ecosystem. As more Mainland green technology and life and health sciences enterprises pursue international growth through Hong Kong, they bring not only capital and access to one of the world's largest markets, but also serve as ideal partners for Canadian companies seeking to explore Asia and beyond. We are keen to build fresh synergies with Canadian businesses to strengthen innovation, collaboration, and investment flows."
The delegation's itinerary includes meetings with local institutions, chambers of commerce, and industry associations. They will also hold targeted discussions with leading Canadian green tech and healthcare enterprises, visit universities and research parks, and participate in sector-specific roundtables and business networking sessions. These activities are designed to create concrete opportunities for collaboration and investment.
This outbound mission is significant because it underscores Hong Kong's unique position as a super-connector between Mainland China and the world. By facilitating the international expansion of Mainland enterprises, Hong Kong not only reinforces its role as a global financial and business hub but also strengthens its own economy through increased investment and business activity. For Canadian companies, the visit opens doors to partnership opportunities in Asia's dynamic markets, particularly in sustainability and life sciences, where both sides have complementary strengths.
Moreover, the focus on green technology and life and health sciences aligns with global trends toward sustainable development and innovation. As countries worldwide ramp up efforts to combat climate change and improve healthcare, collaborations in these sectors can yield significant advancements and economic benefits. The delegation's visit could lead to joint ventures, technology transfers, and increased trade, further integrating the economies of Hong Kong, Mainland China, and Canada.
