Acquired by new owners in 2024, the resort has spent the past 18 months renovating its rooms and raising its standard of service, while retaining the quiet, secluded character that distinguishes it from larger beach destinations.

Fronted by a wide Pacific beach and surrounded by jungle, the resort is designed for travelers seeking the outdoors without the crowds of a conventional resort. The surf break sits steps from the hotel, and guests can fill their days with horseback riding, fishing and e-bikes, or relaxing by the pool. Despite the remote setting, the resort offers reliable fiber-optic Wi-Fi, backup power, strong water pressure, a pool, and an on-site restaurant and bar serving wood-fired, ocean-inspired local and international cuisine.
The resort is reached via Tocumen International Airport (PTY) in Panama City, which is served by direct flights from many U.S. cities, followed by an approximately five-hour drive to the coast. For groups of six or more, the resort offers subsidized round-trip transport, with door-to-door pickup and return from the airport and Panama City. The resort’s accommodations comprise 14 rooms and two self-catering apartments – each apartment sleeping up to four and bookable directly through the resort – suited to couples, families, groups, retreats and special celebrations.
The transformation matters beyond one property. It reflects a broader shift in Central American tourism, where smaller, nature-focused destinations are repositioning to capture demand from North Americans seeking alternatives to crowded resorts. Panamá’s use of the U.S. dollar eliminates currency risk for visitors and investors, while visa-free entry lowers the barrier for U.S. citizens. For the Azuero Peninsula, a successful upscale resort could spur local employment and infrastructure improvements, but also raises questions about balancing development with the region’s traditional culture and fragile marine ecosystems.
