Greenland Mines Completes Sarfartoq Rare Earths Acquisition, Bolstering Western Supply Chain

Greenland Mines (NASDAQ: GRML) announced the closing of its acquisition of the Sarfartoq Nd-Pr Rare Earths Project in southwest Greenland, a move that strengthens the company's position in the critical minerals sector and supports Western efforts to reduce reliance on Chinese rare earth processing. The transaction, completed on September 1, 2026, was valued at $20 million in cash and $15 million in securities, underscoring the strategic importance of the asset.

The Sarfartoq project is notable for its planned annual production of neodymium-praseodymium (NdPr) oxide, a key component in permanent magnets used in electric vehicles, wind turbines, and other clean energy technologies. According to the company, Sarfartoq's planned output would represent approximately 34% of all NdPr oxide refined outside China at 2025 consumption levels during each of the project's nine scheduled operating years. This highlights the project's potential to significantly impact the global supply chain, which is currently dominated by China.

An independent Initial Assessment, based solely on the ST1 deposit, estimates a high-case pre-tax net present value (NPV) of approximately $2.05 billion and a pre-tax internal rate of return (IRR) of 118.6%. These figures include Indicated and Inferred Mineral Resources, pointing to the project's robust economics.

With the acquisition now closed, Greenland Mines is advancing Sarfartoq toward a Pre-Feasibility Study. Planned activities include targeted infill drilling, pilot-scale metallurgical test work, mine engineering planning, environmental and social baseline studies, and drone-based magnetic surveys. This comprehensive approach aims to de-risk the project and provide the necessary data for a thorough assessment of its feasibility.

The transaction also brought in Neo Performance Materials as a strategic shareholder. Neo retains offtake rights for up to 60% of future Sarfartoq ore or mineral concentrate production, which will be processed at its Silmet rare earth separation facility in Estonia. This partnership is a key element in the project's value chain, ensuring a market for the output and supporting the development of Western processing capabilities.

Greenland Mines' broader strategy centers on building a multi-asset platform with exposure to rare earth magnet materials, precious metals, and selected midstream processing opportunities. The company's vision includes a North Atlantic Critical Metals Corridor linking Greenland resources with allied downstream jurisdictions and industrial infrastructure. This acquisition is a significant step in that direction, aligning with Western policy goals to secure critical mineral supplies.

The closing of the Sarfartoq acquisition comes at a time when global demand for rare earth elements is surging, driven by the transition to green energy and the push for technological sovereignty. By securing access to a world-class NdPr deposit, Greenland Mines is positioning itself to play a pivotal role in meeting this demand, while offering investors exposure to a sector with strong growth prospects.

As Greenland Mines proceeds with its development plans, the company is expected to provide further updates on the project's progress. The successful execution of the Pre-Feasibility Study will be a critical milestone, with the potential to unlock significant value for shareholders and contribute to a more resilient global supply chain for these essential materials.
