U.S. Term Limits announced today that former Texas State Representative Jarvis Johnson has agreed to serve as Texas State Co-Chair for the organization. Johnson, who served in the Texas House of Representatives from 2016 to 2025 and previously on the Houston City Council, brings more than three decades of public service and community leadership to the effort to enact congressional term limits.
Johnson's role will involve building grassroots support across Texas for a constitutional amendment to limit the number of terms members of Congress can serve. U.S. Term Limits is the nation's largest grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to establishing term limits at all levels of government, particularly for the U.S. Congress. The organization works with citizens and lawmakers across the country to advance constitutional reforms that increase accountability, encourage citizen legislators, and restore trust in government.

"Americans are frustrated with a Congress that has become increasingly disconnected from the people it serves. Johnson emphasized the founding principles behind term limits. "Our Founding Fathers never intended public office to become a lifetime career," he said. "When elected officials remain in office for decades, Washington becomes more focused on preserving political power than solving the problems facing hardworking Americans. Term limits will help ensure that elected officials remain focused on serving the people rather than serving themselves."
Johnson's legislative career includes championing bills on public education, mental health, criminal justice reform, and economic opportunity. He helped secure more than $2.1 billion in investments for flood control, infrastructure, historically Black colleges and universities, and neighborhood revitalization. His work on the Houston City Council included innovative community development initiatives and youth mentorship programs.
