A New York personal injury law firm, David Resnick & Associates, P.C., has secured a $1.925 million settlement for a 38-year-old woman who sustained catastrophic injuries in a slip-and-fall accident on a wet staircase in her building. The settlement was reached before trial, as announced by the firm on June 20, 2026.
The lawsuit, filed in the Supreme Court of the State of New York, New York County, alleged that the woman suffered tears in the labrum of both hips, as well as injuries to her spine and neck, after slipping on a wet and slippery staircase. The fall led to induced labor and required surgical treatment and extensive rehabilitation. Following the accident, she was confined to rehabilitation services for several months and underwent surgery to repair the hip tears.
The injuries significantly impacted the woman's daily life, limiting her ability to walk, bend, sit, perform household chores, or enjoy activities with her children. The building owner and managing agent argued that the fall occurred during a period of snow and cold weather, and they were not required to cover all floors with mats or continuously remove moisture tracked onto the stairs. They also claimed they did not create the wet conditions and lacked notice of them.
Attorney Philip Monier, who represented the woman, stated, "We were prepared to call medical and economic experts to demonstrate to the jury the extent of this lovely woman's injuries and the effect they have had, and will continue to have, on her life." Monier emphasized that when an accident results from negligence, the injured party deserves full compensation for past and future suffering. "The proceeds from this settlement will help our client deal with her continuing pain and functional difficulties," he added.
