Code Ninjas, a franchise that teaches children coding through video game development, is set to open a new location in Seattle's Queen Anne neighborhood on July 28. Located at 513 1st Ave. West, #B, next to the Space Needle, the center will serve families in Queen Anne, Magnolia, South Lake Union, Downtown, Fremont, and surrounding areas.
The new Code Ninjas is owned by local father Atul Goyal, along with his daughters Kaia, 20, and Kyra, 16. Goyal, who moved to the United States from New Delhi, India in 2005, has a background in telecom and cloud engineering, having worked at T-Mobile, AT&T, and AWS. His eldest daughter, Kaia, a physical therapy student at the University of Washington, will serve as operations director, while Kyra will work as a Sensei after school.
“As someone who loves math and has seen first-hand the tech-driven future we are headed towards, Code Ninjas was an easy decision to join,” said Goyal. “Code Ninjas plays a critical role in building a foundation for the children in our community. I am privileged to be able to play a role and offering Code Ninjas to more kids.”
The center offers a game-based curriculum structured around nine belts, similar to martial arts. Children progress at their own pace from white to black belt, receiving guidance from Code Senseis and peers. The program culminates in publishing an app in an app store. This approach aims to make learning coding fun and engaging, while also teaching problem-solving skills essential for future careers.
Code Ninjas serves children ages 5-14 and provides a flexible weeknight drop-in program, summer camps, and Parents Night Out events. Summer camps will begin on August 1 at the Queen Anne location. More information about camps and the center can be found at www.codeninjas.com/wa-queen-anne.
