Auro Metals Races to Unlock Ecuador’s Mining Potential with Santa Barbara Project

Ecuador is rapidly emerging as a key frontier for gold and copper mining, with only about 10% of its territory explored despite hosting some of the world's largest undeveloped deposits. The country offers strategic advantages including lower elevation deposits near the Pacific coast, access to renewable energy, and the use of the U.S. dollar as its official currency, which eliminates foreign exchange risk for international miners. These factors are driving a wave of investment and consolidation, as evidenced by recent acquisitions such as Jiangxi Copper's $1.2 billion purchase of SolGold and CMOC Group's $420 million deal for Lumina Gold.

Building on this momentum, Auro Metals Inc. (OTC: AURFF) has acquired the Santa Barbara project from Silvercorp, transforming from an early-stage explorer into a significant player in Ecuador. Located in the Zamora Copper-Gold Belt, the Santa Barbara project boasts a high-confidence indicated resource of 29.8 million tonnes containing 697,000 ounces of gold and 68 million pounds of copper, plus an inferred resource of 205.7 million tonnes with additional 3.4 million ounces of gold and 426 million pounds of copper. The company paid a total of $13.5 million in staged cash payments for the project.

Drilling commenced in April as part of a phase 1 program using four drill rigs. Five holes have been completed, with core samples being prepared for assay. The program aims to confirm historical drill results, upgrade existing resources, and improve understanding of mineralization controls. A subsequent phase 2 will focus on step-out drilling and resource extension, including depth targets, as the company works toward full-scale development.

“The closing of this acquisition marks the beginning of a new chapter for Auro. Santa Barbara is a large-scale, gold-copper porphyry system with an existing resource and significant exploration upside in one of the world's most prolific gold-copper metallogeny belts,” said Victor Feng, CEO of Auro. “With our financing in place and technical team mobilized, we are fully focused on unlocking the potential of this asset for our shareholders.”

As major companies continue to secure premier porphyry assets in Ecuador, the race is on for remaining territory. Auro’s progress at Santa Barbara positions it at the forefront of this mining expansion, with upcoming assay results likely to be closely watched by investors.
