The mobile scanner is mounted on an ABB GoFa collaborative robot arm, allowing for high-resolution scanning outside traditional studio and museum environments. The system scans eight times faster than the previous version and can capture surface geometry and true color with accuracy down to 10 microns, generating Arius Digital Master Files (ADMF) for preservation and digital asset management.
According to Paul Lindahl, CEO of Arius Technology, the collaboration with ABB Robotics enables the company to bring its digitization capabilities directly to artworks in locations previously inaccessible to high-resolution scanning. The GoFa robot's precision, repeatability, and compact design make it suitable for fragile interiors such as chapels and historic sites. The system supports large-scale digitization projects, fresco conservation, architectural heritage studies, and emergency documentation for at-risk sites.
