To be eligible, applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited undergraduate program, maintain a minimum GPA of 3.5, and intend to pursue a medical degree (MD or DO). As part of the application, students must submit an 800–1,200 word essay responding to the prompt: "Describe one operational innovation that could significantly improve patient care in clinical settings, and explain how you would implement it." Essays must follow APA citation guidelines, and originality is essential—plagiarism will result in disqualification.
Dr. Kevin Ciresi, who has over twenty years of experience in clinical excellence and healthcare operations innovation, established the scholarship to foster the next generation of medical professionals who value patient-centered care. He served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at San Ramon Regional Medical Center and has developed workflow systems adopted by numerous practices.
