Angkor Resources Corp. (TSXV: ANK, OTCQB: ANKOF) has announced the completion of the initial drilling phase at its Andong Bor copper-gold target in Cambodia. The company planned a total of 2,800 meters of diamond drilling, of which the first 1,099 meters were completed in mid-July on the Thmei North target, a one-square-kilometer copper anomaly. The program was staged around Cambodia's seasons, with the balance of the drilling set to resume in early 2027 once fields are dry and crops harvested.
Dennis Ouellette, VP Exploration, commented on the results: “Two of the three holes drilled this year encountered good porphyry and skarn mineralization over the 400 meters each was drilled. Portions of skarn were especially well mineralized. The third hole contained a run of over 200 meters with continuous pyrite mineralization up to 20%.”
The drilling at Thmei North is designed to intersect mineralized beds by drilling to the east, following the understanding that the main structures controlling mineralization are north-northwest striking and steeply west dipping. The modified copper porphyry model suggests that the best mineralization occurs within potassic-altered sediments adjacent to feldspar porphyry diorite dikes of varying widths. By drilling to the east, the company aims to maximize mineralized sedimentary rock interceptions as it drills through alternating lithologies.
The core from the completed 1,099 meters is being logged, and selected intervals will be dispatched for assay. The second phase of the Thmei North drill program and activity on Thmei South will continue in 2027.
The Andong Bor license spans 100.28 square kilometers across Oddar Meanchey and Banteay Meanchey provinces. This drilling program is part of Angkor Resources' broader exploration efforts in Cambodia, where it holds two mineral exploration licenses with multiple copper and gold prospects. The company also has an onshore oil and gas license in Block VIII and has identified multiple drill targets following 2D seismic in 2025.
The company's CEO, Delayne Weeks, emphasized the importance of this progress: “We are pleased with the initial results from Andong Bor, which confirm the potential of this copper-gold target. The mineralization encountered in the first three holes is encouraging, and we look forward to completing the remaining 1,700 meters in the next season.”
The results from this initial drilling phase are significant as they provide early evidence of porphyry and skarn mineralization, which could lead to a new copper-gold discovery in Cambodia. The company plans to continue systematic exploration to fully evaluate the Thmei North and Thmei South targets.
