The Alamo will celebrate the grand opening of the Alamo Promenade on Friday, November 21, at 11 a.m. on Plaza de Valero, the public greenspace in front of the Menger Hotel. This new pedestrian-friendly walkway converts a traditional street into a welcoming gateway from Commerce Street onto the Alamo grounds, featuring statues honoring key historical figures and shaded seating areas. The statues lead toward the nearby Briscoe Western Art Museum, creating a powerful connection between two cultural destinations.
The event, called "Happy Trails," also marks the culmination of the Alamo Statewide Stampede, a fundraising challenge issued earlier this year that encouraged all Texans to preserve Texas history by giving back to the Alamo. The winning counties of the challenge, judged on a per capita basis, will be announced during the ceremony. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Alamo Trust, Inc. President and CEO Hope Andrade will cut the ribbon on this new chapter of the Alamo's 300-year history.
The Alamo Promenade project exemplifies the ongoing work to honor the past while shaping a more connected, vibrant, and forward-looking Texas. Designated a National Historic Landmark in 1960 and part of the Lone Star State's only UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2015, the site continues to evolve while preserving its 300-year history.
