The move signals a strategic shift for the company, which intends to maintain its existing manufacturing operations while building additional value around them. "We want the ability to manufacture for our customers, participate more deeply in their product-development programs and, where the opportunity warrants it, develop or acquire technologies and products that can be commercialized through the 3DX platform."
The new division is expected to pursue multiple growth avenues, including providing engineering and manufacturing services to outside technology companies, forming strategic development and commercialization relationships, and evaluating opportunities to develop, license, or acquire complementary technologies and products. This approach could allow 3DX to participate at multiple stages of a product's lifecycle, from concept and engineering through prototyping, manufacturing, assembly, and commercial production. Such participation may lead to recurring production programs, longer-term technology relationships, and potentially proprietary products and intellectual property.

Initial priorities for the division include recruiting qualified AI, robotics, and engineering leadership; expanding 3DX's ability to support robotics, autonomous systems, and intelligent-product programs from concept through production; developing reusable technology and engineering capabilities that can support multiple physical-product platforms; evaluating strategic technology acquisitions, intellectual property, licensing opportunities, and development partnerships; and assessing proprietary and partnered products that complement 3DX's manufacturing capabilities and provide a practical path toward commercialization.
